Chemical composition of Panicum maximum ‘BRS Zuri’ subjected to levels of salinity and irrigation depths Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Silva,Eranildo Brasil da; Carneiro,Maria Socorro de Souza; Furtado,Rafael Nogueira; Lopes,Marcos Neves; Braga,Marilena de Melo.
ABSTRACT The study of cultivars with moderate flood tolerance is essential to their use in pastures irrigated with saline water. The aim of this study was to evaluate the chemical composition of Panicum maximum ‘BRS Zuri’ under the effect of different irrigation depths and levels of salinity. A randomised block design of split plots was used with five replications per treatment. The treatments resulted from the combination of three levels of water salinity (S1 = 0.6, S2 = 1.8 and S3 = 3.0 dS m-1) and four levels of irrigation (I1 = 60%, I2 = 80%, I3 = 100% and I4 = 120% of the evapotranspiration). The chemical composition of the grass, Panicum maximum ‘BRS Zuri’, cut at 28 days, was evaluated over two cycles. There was an interaction between the factors...

Fermentative losses and chemical composition of elephant grass silage added with castor bean hull Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Furtado,Rafael Nogueira; Carneiro,Maria Socorro de Souza; Coutinho,Danielle Nascimento; Cândido,Magno José Duarte; Silva,Eranildo Brasil da.
ABSTRACT Fermentation and chemical composition of elephant grass silage was evaluated with 0, 10, 20 and 30% castor been hull based on the natural matter. The experimental design was completely randomized with five replications. Silos were weighed out during manufacture, and reweighed before and after the opening after storage for 30 days. We determined the chemical composition, specific mass and effluent and gas losses, dry matter recovery, pH and ammonia nitrogen of the silage. The specific mass, pH, dry matter content, crude protein, acid detergent fiber, total carbohydrates and cellulose increased linearly (P<0.05) with the inclusion of castor bean hull. Quadratic effect was observed for effluent and gas losses, ammonia nitrogen and non-fibrous...

Intake, digestibility and nitrogen balance in sheep fed diets containing detoxified castor cake Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Furtado,Rafael Nogueira; Pompeu,Roberto Cláudio Fernandes Franco; Cândido,Magno José Duarte; Pereira,Elzânia Sales; Lopes,Marcos Neves; Rogério,Marcos Cláudio Pinheiro.
ABSTRACT The effect of substituting soybean meal (SM) with four levels (0, 33, 67 and 100%) of detoxified castor cake (DCC) on intake, nutrient digestibility and nitrogen balance was evaluated in uncastrated, male, crossbred sheep in a randomised complete block design with four treatments and five replications. There was a decreasing linear effect from the levels of substitution on dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM) and crude protein (CP) intake, total carbohydrates (TC), non-fibrous carbohydrates (NFC) and total digestible nutrients (TDN), and on DM, OM and TC digestibility, for reductions of 2.04, 1.70, 0.35, 1.56, 1.89 and 1.67 g dia-1 and 0.34, 0.53 and 0.51 g kg-1 DM respectively, for each 1% SM substituted with DCC. DMI and NDFap expressed, in %BW...

Nutritive value of elephant grass silage added with cottonseed cake in diet for sheep Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Dias,Elyane Cristina Borges; Cândido,Magno José Duarte; Furtado,Rafael Nogueira; Pompeu,Roberto Claúdio Fernandes Franco; Silva,Leane Veras da.
ABSTRACT The objective was to evaluate the intake, nutrient digestibility and nitrogen balance in sheep fed diets containing elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum Schum) silage containing 0; 7; 14 and 21% cottonseed cake. Twenty Morada Nova sheep were used in a completely randomized design with four treatments and five replicates. The diets were isoproteic, isoenergetic and isofibrous. There was no effect of cottonseed cake levels on nutrient intake and digestibility coefficient of ether extract. The digestibility coefficients of dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, total carbohydrates and non-fiber carbohydrates presented a linear reduction with the levels of cottonseed cake varying from, respectively, 537.97 to 421.21; 566.54 to 446.42; 595, 38 to...
